All of our horses are trained using natural horsemanship methods. They clip, tie, bathe, load, stand to mount, and walk out calmly. They are hobble and high line trained.

"Auto" is a coming 3 year old Spotted Mountain Horse. He is great on the trails and has been to the beach and all over the hills of Oregon. He has a nice ground covering flat walk, and a quick little rack, he can canter too, though his que's aren't perfect yet. He leads or follows on the trail and is super handy and sure footed. He should mature to around 14.2 hh and is suitable for an advance beginner.

Simon Sez "Simon" is a gorgeous 4 year old Palomino Gelding. He has MANY trail miles and is very easy going, in and out of the arena. He is pretty enough and talented enough to show and is SMOOTH AS GLASS. He also has great "self carriage", he could gait bridless if you like, there is no need to "keep him together" while gaiting. He can also gait at great speed, with no break, and has a slow, beautiful lope. He is currently learning some reining, side passing, neck reining, haunch turns, and is training for the 7th Annual Northwest Mountain Trail Championships and will be at the Oregon Horse Center in Eugene November 6-9, unless sold. Simon, as well as all horses at Smart Strides, stands for the farrier, clips, ties, loads, hobbles, stakes, stands for the mounting block, ground ties, stands in the cross ties for anything. This horse is very easy going and would willingly let you use him as a diving board in a river.

"Scamp" is a 4 year old, Triple Registered Mountain Horse. He is an excellent trail horse and is suitable for an advanced beginner. He is an in your pocket kind of horse and is always willing to please, he can easily be ridden by a knowledgable youth. He has been to several horse shows and even a horse expo and did very well. He is extremely well gaited, smooth and sure footed wherever you point him. He will be no taller that 15.1, Scamp is very stout.

Pilgrim is a very stylish horse, with quite a personality. He is Solid Black - tiny little snip of white on the end of his nose. 36" mane and a tail that touches ground. Pilgrim has wonderful confirmation, he is a very solid horse. He would be a great prospect for a show horse and could climb any mountain. He has been trail ridden miles and miles and he never misses a step.

No tricks/gimmicks, totally natural and always flat shod. "Traveler" is out of a Pride's Champagne/Ebony Masterpiece mare and by Design To Love, a Silver Design direct son.

Homegrown WA State bred. Started under saddle in February 2007 and professional training continued through the 2007 show season. Successfully ended 2007 as the WIWHA year-end high point Reserve 4-Year Old Plantation Grand Champion and a WHOA Top Ten National 4-Year Old Plantation Champion. He is fun to ride and elegant to watch. Long overstride with reaching front-end and great timing. He could win as a Lite Shod or Plantation Shod entry. Starting him in his canter could be negotiated as part of purchase price. In addition to his natural abilities, he has an endearing personality.

Interested in trail riding? He enjoys that too but best suited as a "rail horse". Traveler is not a "dead-head" and shows you his "big motor" when asked. He is responsive and respectful of voice and leg cues. Recommend an intermediate and/or confident rider or a novice with a trainer. So far in 2008 he is being ridden at home by his amateur owner/rider in a keg shoe. Keeping a good foot on him if a new owner wants to put him back in the show ring.

Current on usual vaccines (WNV too)/worming/shoeing schedules. Loads/hauls/ties & handles like a dream.
